Elderly Man Killed in Crash on Hwy 63 Near Hinton in Boone Co., MO
May 22, 2026

Boone County, MO (May 22, 2026) – A 78-year-old Columbia man died, and two others were injured in a serious collision on Thursday, May 21, in Boone County. The crash happened after the 78-year-old man pulled onto Highway 63 from a private road and crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle near the Hinton area. The collision involved his 1996 Saturn SL2 and a 2011 Toyota Prius.

The man was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Prius was driven by a 78-year-old woman from Kirksville, who suffered moderate injuries. Her husband, a 75-year-old Kirksville man riding as a passenger, was hurt with minor injuries. Both were taken to University Hospital by ambulance.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate this incident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life, and we wish the two others hurt a full recovery.

Recovering After a Serious Crash Near Hwy 63 in Boone County, MO

When a collision leaves people with moderate or minor injuries, the path to recovery is not always straightforward. Injuries from a high-speed roadway crash can affect the neck, back, and spine in ways that are not fully apparent in the hours immediately following impact. Whiplash, disc injuries, and soft tissue damage are among the most common consequences of vehicle crashes on rural corridors like Highway 63, and these conditions can worsen without proper evaluation and care.

Pain after a crash does not always arrive right away. Some people feel relatively normal in the first day or two, only to develop significant neck pain, back stiffness, or radiating discomfort into the arms or legs in the days that follow.

These symptoms are especially common in older adults, whose bodies may take longer to signal the full extent of an injury. For passengers in their seventies, even a crash classified as causing moderate or minor injuries can result in real and lasting physical limitations if left unaddressed.

Non-surgical treatment options are available for many of the injuries people experience after a vehicle crash. Chiropractic care, spinal decompression therapy, physical therapies, and laser therapy can all play a role in reducing pain, restoring mobility, and supporting the body's natural healing process.

These approaches focus on addressing the root cause of pain rather than masking it, and they can be particularly well-suited for older adults who may not be candidates for surgical intervention.
