Cole County, MO (October 12, 2026) – Two children and a woman were injured on Friday, October 9, in a four-vehicle crash at Route D and U.S. 54 in Cole County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. when a 65-year-old Columbia woman driving a 2026 Volkswagen Taos attempted to cross the highway and failed to yield. Her vehicle was struck on the rear left side by a westbound 2018 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 43-year-old Columbia woman.
The impact caused the Jeep to overturn before landing upright. Two 12-year-old boys from Columbia and a dog were also inside the Jeep. The dog was thrown from the vehicle during the collision.
A second Volkswagen Taos, driven by a 51-year-old Linn woman, struck debris from the initial crash while traveling eastbound. A westbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 60-year-old Wright City woman later struck the dog.
The Jeep’s occupants were transported by ambulance to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment. The Jeep and the 2026 Volkswagen Taos were totaled, while the other two vehicles sustained minor damage.
We hope everyone injured in the crash makes a smooth recovery.
Recovering from a car accident can involve more than allowing bruises and soreness to heal. Depending on the nature of the collision, some people may experience ongoing muscle tension, joint discomfort, or difficulty returning to their usual level of activity. These challenges can affect everyday tasks, including walking, working, driving, and maintaining a comfortable sitting or standing position.
As recovery progresses, restoring normal movement may become an important part of the healing process. Pain or stiffness can sometimes cause people to avoid certain movements, which may make it harder to resume their usual routines. A healthcare professional can assess these concerns and help determine whether rehabilitation or other forms of treatment may be appropriate.
Physical rehabilitation may include exercises and therapeutic approaches designed to improve flexibility, support mobility, and address areas of discomfort. The specific treatment depends on the individual's injuries, symptoms, and progress. Regular reassessment can help ensure that the recovery plan continues to reflect the person's needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
