Columbia, MO (October 1, 2026) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Thursday morning, October 1, on Paris Road near Vandover Road in Columbia.
Initial reports indicate a car struck a pedestrian. Emergency crews arrived to assist, but the pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Crews blocked Paris Road with flares and vehicles while they worked. Traffic was also restricted on Oakland Gravel Road near Andy Drive.
Drivers were asked to use another route and avoid going around the barriers. Crews later reopened the southbound lane at Vandover Road.
Authorities continue to investigate what led to the crash.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the person who lost their life.
Pedestrian crash recovery in Columbia can take time because the body may need to heal from several injuries at once. Each injury can improve at a different pace. One part of the body may feel better while another still needs care.
When a vehicle strikes someone on foot, the body may absorb more than one force. A person can be hit by the vehicle and then fall to the pavement. This can affect the neck, back, shoulders, hips, knees, and other joints.
After the first few hours, pain, stiffness, swelling, or headaches may become more noticeable. Some people may not recognize limited movement until a day or two later. An auto injury care provider in Columbia can evaluate these changes and determine which areas may need attention.
When pain limits normal movement, the affected area can gradually become stiff or weak. Everyday activities such as climbing stairs, bending, lifting, or reaching overhead may become more difficult. Reduced movement can also weaken muscles that help support injured joints.
As symptoms improve, treatment may progress in stages. Care can start with gentle movement before advancing to stretching and strengthening exercises. Balance work or other controlled exercises may be added as movement and stability improve.
There is no single recovery timeline after a pedestrian crash. Injury severity, age, overall health, and everyday physical demands can all affect progress. Regular evaluations can help track changes and determine whether the treatment plan should be adjusted.
