What Injuries Are Common in Car Accidents in Columbia, MO?

Car accidents in Columbia can cause back injuries, neck injuries, head injuries, shoulder injuries, soft-tissue injuries, and injuries to the arms and legs. Some injuries are noticeable right away, while others may not become apparent until hours or days later.

After a collision, sudden changes in speed can force the body forward, backward, or sideways. This movement can place stress on muscles, ligaments, joints, and other tissues throughout the body.

In some cases, the direction and force of the crash can influence which parts of the body are injured. Rear-end, side-impact, and head-on collisions can affect occupants differently because the body moves in different ways during each type of crash.

Depending on the circumstances, contact with the steering wheel, dashboard, door, window, or seat can also contribute to an injury. An occupant’s position at the time of the crash may affect where and how the body is hurt.

Because some injuries are not immediately obvious, follow-up care may be important after a serious collision. A later evaluation can help identify problems that were not apparent during the first examination.

During an appointment, an auto injury care provider in Columbia may assess range of motion, tenderness, alignment, and areas affected by movement. This can help identify injuries that may require further care.
