After an emergency room visit for a crash in Columbia, follow your discharge instructions and arrange any recommended follow-up care. Emergency treatment addresses urgent concerns. Continued pain or limited movement may require further evaluation.
In the following days, pay attention to changes in how you feel. Neck stiffness, back pain, headaches, numbness, or swelling may gradually appear. Some crash-related symptoms can develop several hours after the initial injury.
Even when X-rays show no broken bones, injuries may still affect the muscles, ligaments, or joints. A follow-up provider can evaluate your symptoms. They can also determine whether additional testing or treatment may be appropriate.
Depending on your injuries, treatment may focus on reducing pain and restoring comfortable movement. Your provider may recommend gentle activity, exercises, or other forms of care. The appropriate plan will depend on your symptoms and medical history.
As your recovery continues, follow any restrictions involving work, driving, lifting, or exercise. Returning to demanding activities too quickly may increase your discomfort. Let your provider know if an activity causes new pain or worsens an existing symptom.
Before your appointment, write down when each symptom started and whether it has changed. Bring your discharge papers and a list of your medications. These details can help an auto injury care provider in Columbia better understand your needs and plan your care.
