After a crash in Columbia, soreness may not appear immediately. Neck pain, back discomfort, headaches, or stiffness can become noticeable several hours or even days later as the body reacts to the force of the collision.
During your first appointment, you will be asked about the crash, when your symptoms started, and how they have affected your daily activities. A Columbia auto injury care provider may then check your movement, posture, tender areas, and signs of possible nerve irritation.
Once the evaluation is complete, care can be based on what the examination shows. Depending on your needs, treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, stretching, strengthening exercises, or lower-force techniques.
As recovery continues, the treatment plan may change. The number of visits may be adjusted, different exercises may be introduced, or certain techniques may be modified depending on how your movement and discomfort improve over time.
During the early weeks, some normal activities may also need temporary changes. Heavy lifting, long periods of sitting, driving, exercise, or repetitive movements can sometimes increase discomfort while irritated muscles and joints recover.
At the same time, some symptoms should receive additional medical attention. New numbness, worsening weakness, a severe or unusual headache, fever, or symptoms that continue to get worse may require further evaluation.
When symptoms are severe, unusual, or slow to improve, additional testing may be considered. X-rays, MRI scans, or referral for further medical care are not always necessary after a crash, but they may help when the examination suggests a problem that needs a closer look.
