Columbia, MO (August 21, 2026) – A motorcyclist was hurt on Tuesday afternoon, August 18, after a car backed into his motorcycle on MO-163 at Deer Park Road in Columbia.
The wreck happened around 12:35 p.m. as a car backed into the front of the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and was taken to University Hospital.
Authorities continue to review the details of the crash.
We hope the injured motorcyclist makes a strong recovery.
Recovery time after a motorcycle crash in Columbia varies widely depending on the type of injury, but even collisions labeled as minor can involve strained muscles, joint injuries, or road rash that take weeks to fully heal.
Motorcyclists lack the protection a car provides, so even a lower-speed impact can cause more physical stress on the body than it might in a car-to-car collision. Getting evaluated soon after a crash helps establish a clear starting point for treatment.
During an initial visit, it helps to describe exactly how the impact occurred, including which part of the body absorbed the force and whether you were riding or stationary at the time. This kind of detail helps a doctor narrow down which areas need closer evaluation, especially for injuries like wrist, shoulder, or lower back strain that are common after a motorcyclist is struck.
Some motorcycle-related injuries don't show their full extent right away, which is why follow-up appointments matter as much as the first visit. Swelling, stiffness, and nerve-related symptoms can develop over the days following a crash, even when the initial injury was described as minor. A vehicle injury care provider in Columbia can track these changes and adjust a treatment plan as symptoms evolve.
Left untreated, even a minor motorcycle injury can gradually turn into a longer-term mobility issue. At Lordex Spine Center of Columbia, we work with people recovering from motorcycle crashes and other vehicle-related injuries throughout Boone County to build a treatment plan suited to their specific needs.
